Otto Guerra

Directing 1956-03-05 Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Otto Guerra Netto is a Brazilian filmmaker, animator, and screenwriter. He is considered one of the pioneers of auteur animation in Brazil, being the creator of Otto Desenhos Animados, which has established itself as one of the most important animation studios in the country. Guerra is definitely not a conventional filmmaker. As a child, he worried his family by drawing more than recommended. He created his production company at the age of 22 and, as an adult, invested in the production of authorial animations that satirize mass culture and Brazilian conservatism. Part of this filmography made up of adventures, original drawings and a lot of humor can be enjoyed in this exhibition. Among his works are notable films such as "Rocky & Hudson" (1994), "Wood & Stock: Sex, Oregano and Rock'n'Roll" (2006), "Until Sbornia Do Us Part" (2014), and "The City of Pirates" (2019). Since 2020, he has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Otto is the only director with four works on the list of the 100 most important Brazilian animated films, defined by the Brazilian Association of Film Critics (ABRACCINE) in the book "100 Years of Animation Cinema in Brazil". He is also one of the five Brazilians mentioned in the book "Animation Now!", recognized as the bible of world animation, published in Germany by Taschen. Otto Guerra holds a degree in Digital Multimedia Technology from the University of Southern Santa Catarina and is pursuing a master's degree in Design Management at the Federal University of Santa Catarina.
