　　1971年1月11日，Mary J. Blige出生在美国纽约最北部的布朗克斯区，但是她早年的时光确是在佐治亚州的港口城市萨凡纳度过的，后来她和母亲、姐姐一起搬到了纽约东南部的杨克斯，5岁便遭到性侵害的她，童年带给她的只有创伤。不久她从高中辍学，和她的母亲一起打点理发室。16岁时，有一次她在纽约White Plains的一家卡拉OK演唱Anita Baker的“Caught Up in the Rapture”，并录制成了磁带，她的声音把Uptown Records唱片公司的总裁Andre Harrell吸引住了，很快她就得到了该公司的合同，但开始她只是在公司做些幕后工作，比如给大牌歌手做背景和声等。直到1992年，她得到了吹牛老爹Sean "Puffy" Combs的协助，在他的制作下，Mary J. Blige的个人专辑。2002年，Mary J. Blige又发行了专辑《Dance for Me》，专辑的制作人由西岸说唱大佬Dr. Dre担纲。2003年，第七张个人专辑《Love & Life》与歌迷见面。 　　Mary J. Blige的专辑中有五张成为冠军专辑，数十首顶尖单曲，并且曾经在1996年凭借歌曲“I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need To Get By”和Method Man一起获得了第38届格莱美最佳说唱组合奖(Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group). 　　2005年岁末，Hip-Hop Soul天后Mary J. Blige发行了第7张个人专辑《The Breakthrough》。专辑在发行的第一周恰逢圣诞节，以72万7千张的高销量获得2005年度最后一周的Billboard 200专辑榜的冠军。单曲“Be Without You”在Top100第三，R&B榜15周冠军。与U2合作的“One”在英国拿到第二，并成为06年英国最畅销单曲NO.35。Mary出现在Busta Rhymes的“Touch It”混音中，化名Brook-Lynn。在唱片中大家可以看到Brook-Lynn的名字，在“Enough Cryin’”和“Gonna Breakthrough”两首歌中大玩了一会说唱。 　　这张唱片的销量和奖项使06年成为MJB年：美国3白金，世界7白金的销量。3项格莱美，9项BILLBOARD AWARD，2项全美音乐奖，世界音乐奖特别贡献奖（因为组委会得知她当天不能出席颁奖，把奖项取消了） 　　06年12月，精选《Reflections - A Retrospective》推出，专辑中出现四首新歌。至今销量1,675,000。 　　在2007年岁末，此时已经成为实力派R&B老将的Mary J.Blige推出了她个人的第8张录音室专辑《Growing Pains》，与上张大获成功的专辑《The Breakthrough》相隔了几乎整两年。在Billboard 200专辑榜中上榜第一周，《Growing Pains》凭借62万9千张的销量成绩获得了当周亚军的好成绩。去年是Mary J.Blige事业上大获成功的一年，《The Breakthrough》使她的个人音乐事业达到了顶峰。但作为一位出道已近20年的老将来说，Blige并没有长时间的享受那种所谓的“成功”，而是很快的投入到了下一张专辑的准备工作当中。在这张新作中，Mary J.Blige参与了其中大部分歌曲的创作。首支打榜单曲“Just Fine”已经在MTV、VH-1等各大电视台中成为热播单曲，而另一首打榜单曲“Work That”也成为苹果iPod的广告歌曲。 　　The Neptunes、Johnta Austin、Ne-Yo、Stargate、Bryan-Michael Cox、Tricky、Eric Hudson和Sean Garrett均在其中，而另两位大腕Ludacris与Usher还作为嘉宾在其中客串演唱。 　　MJB说：“唱片的标题灵感来自去年的奥斯卡宴会，著名的脱口秀主持Oprah Winfrey将她带到现场，著名影星梅丽尔斯特里普和妮可基德曼激动地与她拥抱合影，兴奋地说自己如何喜欢她。MARY自问"我值得拥有这些么？"Oprah说道:"因为你身上有她们喜欢的特质"于是，这张唱片的灵感来了：“这是一种成长的时刻.” 　　09年6月，一支与加拿大说唱歌手Drake合作的单曲“The One”发布，而她的新专辑《Stronger》也计划于2009年12月15日发行。而Mary J.
