Born in Tehran, Mitra left Iran aged two emigrating with her family to Northern Ireland which is where she lived until 1997.
Embarking upon her acting studies at the University of Winchester she graduated with honours in 2000. She took a semester at the University of Eau-Claire, Wisconsin in 1998 taking classes in directing and comedy improv. A keen writer, Mitra's first script was selected in the 2021 All3Media New Comedy Script Award.
