美国喜剧演员，曾赢得奥斯卡金像奖、金球奖、美国演员工会奖、格莱美奖等殊荣。近些年依然活跃在银幕上，所出演的以喜剧为主。 　　早在中学高年级时，罗宾·威廉斯演出了第一部学校话剧，“我当时扮演一个古怪的角色，赢得大家一片掌声。”不过，那时他并未意识到一个喜剧天才正在形成。 　　罗宾·威廉斯曾想成为外交官，然而没过多久，他却迷上了演戏，于是转入著名的纽约朱莉亚学院，并得到了奖学金。在洛杉矶喜剧班就读时，罗宾·威廉斯由经纪人介绍，参加了几次电视表演，其中在《幸福的日子》客串的一角令导演欣赏。为此，他得到了《莫克与明迪》那个外星人的角色，而这个和蔼可亲的外星人使罗宾·威廉斯走红美国与欧洲。 　　1980年，罗宾·威廉斯涉足电影圈，在处女作《波皮》(又译《大力水手》)中，他演绎挑大梁的卡通人物波皮，他那让人忍俊不禁的样子，从鼻子到下巴像极了波皮，给人印象深刻。此后，罗宾·威廉斯又连续主演了《哈得逊河丘的莫斯科》、《幸存者》、《天堂俱乐部》等。在头一部影片里，他饰演一位叛逃到美国的苏联马戏团艺人，在那儿同一位意大利姑娘堕入爱河。美国《时代》周刊称赞他的表演“非凡的复杂……他的俄国腔调令人惊愕，怪里怪气，却真实可信。” 罗宾·威廉斯手捧奥斯卡金像，竟激动得一时说不出话来。 　　在罗宾·威廉斯早期的影片中，他均有不俗的表现。这并不奇怪，因为他有天赋，并接受过专业训练，绝不是人们想象中的那种粗俗的小丑式的喜剧演员。然而一段时间以来，罗宾·威廉斯的表演天赋都被他那独辟蹊径、自由发挥且想象丰富的喜剧片子所埋没，观众一直仅仅把他视为普通的喜剧影星。直到《早安，越南!》上演，罗宾·威廉斯才真正以演技派明星的身份受到人们的注目，并令他首次获“奥斯卡奖”提名。美国《每日邮报》评论说：“罗宾·威廉斯终于演出了他的影艺生涯的代表作。” 　　自《早安，越南!》后，罗宾·威廉斯的演技日臻成熟，他又拍了多部影响颇大的力作，如：《死亡诗社》(1989)、《胡克船长》(1991)、《玩具》(1992)、《道特菲尔太太》(又译《肥妈先生》(1993)、《会飞的橡胶》(1997)等，虽然大多数影片仍以令人眼花缭乱、出其不意的喜剧场面取胜，但我们不难看出罗宾·威廉斯在许多方面又有了新的突破，难怪大家总是说他的影片是不应该错过的。 　　2014年8月11日上午11点55分，加州当地警方宣布：美国著名演员、好莱坞男星罗宾-威廉姆斯在家中去世，初步判定为窒息性自杀，享年63岁。他的妻子苏珊-施奈德恳请媒体和公众留给自己一些空间，以消化挚爱离世的震惊和哀痛。 　　当地时间8月11日上午约11:55，加州当地警方接到报警称一位成年男子在自己的寓所里失去意识，也没了呼吸。警方联合当地消防在12点左右到达现场，确认该男子就是好莱坞演员、著名影星罗宾-威廉姆斯。初步信息显示，威廉姆斯最后被看到是在8月10日的晚上10点。由于威廉姆斯是窒息而死，警方据此推断是自杀。但在最后定论前还需要一个综合的、系统的调查。 　　与此同时，威廉姆斯的官方发言人玛拉-巴克斯鲍姆发表声明表示：“罗宾-威廉姆斯今天上午去世了，他最近正饱受严重抑郁症的困扰，他的去世是一个巨大的损失”。威廉姆斯的妻子苏珊-施奈德(Susan Schneider)也说道：“这个上午，我失去了我的丈夫和我最好的朋友，全世界也失去了一个备受爱戴的艺术家和一个善良的人。现在对我来说是一个非常悲恸的时刻，我想代表我的家庭，请求大家尊重我们的隐私。同时也希望大家记住威廉姆斯为大家带来的欢声笑语而不要一直关注他去世的这一悲伤的消息。”
